About the Design

comments from Connie:

"Petals and Pearls" is a hand drawn, Prismacolor pencil and Copic marker sketch. The style is a loose, free hand vignette featuring a feminine scene of flowers, perfume, pearls and things that you might find in the personal space of a busy Mom who wants a little private time.

I tend to sketch very quickly, which at times creates sort of a "messy" look. Do I need to slow down and tighten up my style? Or is it okay to look this loose?

I really love your color choices, loose sketch style & overall "feeling" within the composition...I can easily picture the beautiful surroundings where these items might reside on a vanity table!

Initially, the bright colors and style in this painting exude a sense of femininity and longing for the finer things and then a longer look reveals so much detail. I find myself lingering over this lovely, positive painting.

This is precious! I can imagine sitting in front of this vanity as a little girl and pretending that I was as grown up as my mother by trying the perfumes and primping while wearing her white gloves:)

What I love so much about this piece is the vibrant COLOR! That poppy red flower just pops and is the icing on the cake for this lovely and feminine loose sketch.

Oh what I'd give to see a time lapse of this creation. Love the lines and use of colors.

Your loose style is exactly what's working in this piece. Don't change a thing! While I enjoy the more saturated color of the vase in option A, I have to pick option B for it's fabulous orchid and aqua and the pure white background lets those vibrant colors pop.

Love the contrast of the brighter background against the colors, don't change your style if this is how you enjoy sketching! Beautiful either way!
