i like the chalkboard idea... but maybe a green chalkboard will go better with children's decor??? though black might be good for teens, goths etc... also... on a real board, i would say there is more whitespace or in this case, black space in between. i like the design but maybe space it out more? (if you try that, don't ruin this one...make a copy and then compare it.) it's a great idea though!

I agree with previous comment to open it up a bit. But i think the black and white is strong and the illustration is playful I just think one more color, a blush color possibly would give it a little more playfulness and less edge.

I think this is a great older-child design - I might up the scale a bit, which could give it the looser feel mentioned in other comments?
