I wanted to create a simple design that would remind us how much we are like our parents and the caption I selected was "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Does this caption and design achieve this goal?

I think you've totally achieved your goal! I'm not sure you need the colored apple with the lovely apple print in the background - I always like to keep it simple with photo art.

I like the phrase and think it definitely achieves your goal! I do feel that the branches and apples in the background stand out enough without the need of the coloured apple in the forefront. By removing it, you can bump up the text size a tad too if your prefer. And finally - perhaps try the text in a greyish hue to match the colouring of the background. All the best!
