I wonder if the shell looks too centered, what do you think? To the left more?

The triangular shadow behind the shell helps to keep the eye moving across your piece. I think that you could either enhance the background on the left or crop the image as you suggested if you feel that the center of interest is too prominent. It would look beautiful regardless!

Because of the effects of concentric circles...I would probably lower the shell nearer to the bottom and direct the center of attention up and off to the right.

I this it could be slightly more dynamic if moved off-center - I'm a fan of asymmetry!
