About Robert Deem

A gallery owner once told me, "Paint what you love and not what you think people will buy and they will be drawn to your work." Since then I have tried to follow his advice. At the same time I realized that what attracts me to other artists' work is the love and care that I see in it. I live and paint in Pfafftown, North Carolina and in Windsor, California spending about half the year in each. I do portraiture, pen and ink, but mostly oil on canvas.

Thank you, Robert. The crabapple was from a tree outside my door, picked up and painted with a small box of gradeschool watercolors on sketch paper. Sometimes the littlest things..

Hello Robert, I'm so glad you 'liked' one of my fabric designs, one of my least popular it seems...although I like it which is most important! So much amazing work gets lost in this big machine, so it was great to look at your work just now. I was especially drawn to the boys on the lake, hops pole and light and reflection.

Dear Robert, Your work is amazing to say the least. I really thought they were all photos until I read some comments. I truly appreciate it. You are blessed. And, I am inspired by Esher's tessellations, as well. It is actually exciting to see them. I haven't thought about them in a while. I too have experimented with that style in my carvings. I am slowly getting back into art now after more than a decade of a hiatus. I am excited at the possibility of creating something worthy, again. Thank you for your kind gesture in responding. Unfortunately I don't have a studio space where I can do etchings at the moment … so I have to stick to monoprinting and blockprinting, which is fun too! But certainly would love to get into aquatint etching again … sthg to dream of for the future … Love your submissions – best of luck to you in the contest!

Robert, there was no sway in how I voted because you took 5 minutes longer to reply to a message …you're hilarious :) You really are though – I was reading some of your comments on other pages and you really have a great sense of humour (liking plowed roads the best, and recognizing a painting right away) …I'm glad I wasn't in the process of drinking when I read those – haha.
