Kristin thanks a lot!!! yes, it is really helpful! I am going to but the Canon EF Macro 100mm f2.8 which is just Usm .... I see that there are two variants Macro 100mm f2.8 Usm and Macro 100mm f2.8 IS Usm that is more expensive...As for the light I will try with full sunlight first as you advised. Thank you again, you are very kind.:)!!

Larissa you are unbelievably kind, thank you thank you!! I think your Canon 40D will work out great and you just need a macro lens - I use the Canon EF Macro 100mm f2.8, and I usually try to shoot at least at f11. I'm no expert at macro photography, but I do know that you need as much light as possible. Since you're using these pictures for reference for your drawings, I'd recommend shooting in full sunlight - middle of the day - so you can get as much depth and focus as possible. I so admire your work. I hope that helps a little!
