About Caryn Owen

Caryn Owen created abstract paintings while simultaneously balancing motherhood and a career as a marine biology professor for years. In 2014, she left marine biology behind to predominately focus on art. Using acrylic paint on canvas, Caryn creates abstract landscapes, abstract botanicals, or pure abstract expressionist paintings focusing primarily on color rather than form in her studio in Santa Cruz, California.

Hello to my new favorite artist, Caryn. You *truly* have a gift for color and tone. I'm still trying to process this sentence in your bio: "In 2014, she left marine biology behind to predominately focus on art." Not one, but TWO dream jobs?!! I imagine I'm far from alone when I say that, as a child, I dreamed of being a Marine Biologist who moonlighted as a painter, or vice versa, haha. And all while raising a family?! I can't wait to read your memoir, let alone buy your work.
