Is it time to welcome a new addition to the family? What an exciting time to celebrate! Share the news of your little one with the important people in your life by sending a unique birth announcement card. While there are many ways to announce your baby’s arrival, a personalized card is an elegant, thoughtful way to share the news with your inner circle. Every one of Minted’s birth announcements is designed by an independent artist, and has been voted a design challenge winner by our customers and artist community. This is how we source the freshest designs, and turn them into beautiful products. In our 2019 collection, you will find baby announcements in a variety of modern themes, styles, and budgets, with baby boy, girl, and gender-neutral designs.
But the reason to send a physical notice is about more than design. It’s also about luxe quality and the hand-feel of a beautiful card. That’s why Minted birth announcements are printed with the highest quality, featuring unique, luxe paper and printing options such as letterpress printing, magnets, and vellum overlays. Excited to announce your newborn but unsure where to begin? Try texting us your favorite photo of your little one and we’ll send you back 5 styled designs, for free. Or, if you’ve already found a cute design but aren’t ready to purchase yet, try our free sampling service or request a sample kit and feel our luxe paper and printing with your own hands.
WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR BABY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Most birth announcements include the newborn’s name, birthday, weight, and length. Some parents also choose to include their baby’s gender, their own names and the names of any siblings (pet siblings count too!). This can be a lot of information to include on the front of a card. Minted’s unique selection of backers ensures that you can maximize the space on the front of your card to show off a beautiful photo of your baby, and reserve the space on the back for a personal message.
An example of short and sweet wording is:
“Brooke and Eli are thrilled to welcome Dakota Nolan September 20, 2019. 6 pounds, 15 ounces, 19 inches.”
Or, if you’d prefer to include a longer message, take a look at this example:
“Our beautiful baby girl, Dakota Nolan, was born on the morning of September 20, 2019. She came into this world weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces and measuring an adorable 19 inches. Her loving and joyful parents, Brooke and Eli welcome her with full hearts.”
Only include as much information as you are comfortable sharing. If you are not comfortable sharing a photo of your little one, you could even consider sending a non-photo birth announcement.
WHO TO ALERT WHEN YOUR BABY IS BORN
It is a common birth announcement etiquette to send messages to close family and friends, and to anyone who was invited to your baby shower. Some parents choose to make their list of recipients much broader than that, or to combine their baby announcement with their holiday card, announcing their new arrival with a longer message about the story of their year.
WHEN TO SEND YOUR BIRTH NOTICE
We know the first few months after birth are incredibly busy for new parents, and picking out a card to introduce your child can seem stressful given all of your other priorities. Luckily, most parents don’t take baby photos until a month or two after birth, and many parents take up to six months to get their baby announcements in the mail.
The good news about shopping for a card design online is that you can front-load some of the work while you are still pregnant, and save time later. For example, Minted offers a quick and easy way to collect recipient addresses in your online address book. Once these addresses are saved, they will remain in your account forever, making it easy to add them to your birth announcement envelopes with one simple click. If you purchased baby shower invitations from us, and used free recipient addressing, those addresses will be automatically added to your online address book and can be used again to alert your friends and family about your baby’s birth.
A RANGE OF THEMES FOR EVERY MOM-TO-BE
We want your baby announcements to be as unique as you and your little one. So, whether you prefer a simple and minimalist design or prefer to keep it light with a funny message, you will find a Minted birth announcement that is right for you. You may signal a baby boy or baby girl in your selected design with subtle tones of blue or pink. For example, Starlight, by Itsy Belle Studio showcases baby blue illustrations and dreamy undertones while the adorable Blossom Baby by Morgan Ramberg is filled with bright pink floral motifs and a classic oval frame for your baby girl’s photo. On the other hand, some parents prefer to send a more gender-neutral announcement. If this is more your style, you could consider classic colors, like navy or gold, a monochromatic black-and-white design, such as “Introduction” by Sara Hicks Malone, or a more illustrative design with multiple colors, such as “Woodlands Bunnies” by Aaelia Creative Lab. This past option is full of whimsical animal drawings and comes in five different color palettes. If you need inspiration on a unique theme, take a look at these trends and our “Founder’s Picks”, for some fresh, curated selections.
TYPES OF ANNOUNCEMENTS TO CONSIDER
There are so many unique ways to welcome your new arrival. Minted’s twins and multiples birth announcements feature single- and multi-photo designs to welcome all your new additions at once. If you’re having more than one child, you may also consider sending a notice that has more room to show off all of your pictures. Consider adding a unique backer, with additional photos or a custom message about each of your little ones.
Alternatively, if you’re excited to announce your new arrival prior to your due date, consider sending a beautiful pregnancy announcement. Each of these comes with free custom envelopes and free recipient addressing that is stored in your Minted account and easily accessible for future mailings. So once you add your recipient addresses in, they’ll be easy to pull up for any future birth announcements, holiday cards, and even first birthday invitations. We have information on every type of pregnancy announcement, including fitting designs for your second, third or fourth child. We even have card designs that are suited for the holiday season.
FORMATS FOR MINTED BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENTS
Minted birth announcements come in a variety of formats to suit every budget. Our Classic 5” x 7” format is the most popular and is available in both portrait and landscape orientations to best suit your baby’s photo. For the mom who wants a more luxe presentation to introduce her little one, we offer foil-pressed designs in five foil colors, and even offer custom foil on any personalized text such as your baby’s name, birth date, or birth statistics. Unlike competitors, our foil-pressed cards are hand-pressed with real foil. If you prefer a less shiny alternative, consider sending a letterpress birth announcement. Each of these designs are hand-pressed with rich inks using a historic Heidelberg press and checked by hand to ensure exceptional quality. We have a writeup and video on the art of letterpress if you would like to learn more.
Have too many wonderful photos and wondering how to use them all in one correspondence? Minted’s bookletteTM format might be perfect for you. These roomy formats allow for eight pages of photos and text and feature chic rounded corners and gold staple binding for a luxurious finish. Many parents use their first mailed family correspondence to reveal photos of their baby with friends and family. For a truly unique reveal, consider a vellum overlay presentation, exclusive to Minted. You can pair the vellum overlay with a photo of your newborn for your friends and family to keep.
Minted also offers a number of smart and chic birth announcement formats, such as postcards and petites. Postcards save you postage and paper, with free recipient and return address printing. Petite birth announcements are slightly smaller than our classic 5” x 7” size, but offer free custom envelopes and recipient address printing, to save you time and money. These envelopes are now available in cloud blue and antique rose colors, to make for a delightful delivery.
If you are still debating what format is right for you, consider reviewing our informational guide for a complete and detailed list, including visuals, of all formats that Minted offers.
