A Moody Color Palette for Your Thanksgiving Table

Written by Lauren Saylor of A Fabulous Fete

I’ve never been into the traditional holiday color palettes, so when fall comes along, the first thing I do is brainstorm how I can avoid having anything orange in my house (even the pumpkins we buy are never the traditional types!). Well, how the heck do you decorate your Thanksgiving table then? My advice: Get moody. And by that I mean with your color scheme, not with your roommate or spouse. This unexpected palette of matte black, wood tones, grey, copper, and lots of green creates a fall vibe at the table without looking like you brought home all of the orange and brown decorations from the Thanksgiving aisle at the grocery store. Here are my tips to achieve this look.

Chic Halloween Decor in One Easy Step

Written by Lauren Saylor of A Fabulous Fete

The older I get, the less I want to decorate my house in traditional Halloween colors. If we are going to have decorations up for weeks at a time, I want it to look great—after all, I’m going to look at it every day! So this month has been all about brainstorming chic ideas with a spooky twist, which lead me to my new secret weapon for Halloween decorating, beakers. They give off a creepy laboratory vibe when paired with moody colors and maybe a spider web or two. Here are a few ways you can update the bar for your Halloween bash if you grab just a few.

Resources:
• I ordered a few sets of beakers on Amazon: the cylinder shape and the flask shape.

These beakers got my bar Halloween-ready with minimal effort. I did the same things I always do for guests, just in interesting containers! Great for any last minute decorating or putting that finishing touch on your decor.

Wedding Inspiration: Easy, Breezy Summer

By Lauren Saylor of  A Fabulous Fete

Desert Wedding

I’ve had a small (okay, fine—huge!) place in my heart for a black, white, and peach palette since the day I started planning my own wedding. And as I was browsing Minted looking for some fun summer inspiration, I stumbled upon this palm tree-themed save-the-date that included those very colors. It was love at first sight and instantly brought to mind an easy, breezy summer wedding infused with tropical touches and boho details. Here’s how to get the look.

What to Wear to a Wedding: Fancy Skirts and T-Shirts

Weddings have dramatically changed from what was acceptable just a few short years ago. Gone are the days when wedding guests had to buy formal attire to celebrate a friend’s big day. Rather, stylish women these days are layering shift dresses with blazers and booties, breaking out the pants and jumpsuits, and—my personal favorite—pairing simple tees with their dressiest skirts. Not convinced? Here are my top picks for pulling this look off at the next wedding you’re invited to.

DIY Wedding: Wine Cork Escort-Card Display

If you’re also a fellow wine lover, then there’s a conundrum we all encounter: What to do with all of the corks? If you hang on to them, like I do, then you’ll know how tough it is to find a unique way to display corks. However, re-purposing them into an escort-card display is clever way to share your love of wine with your friends and family members.

DIY Wedding: Fresh Floral Table Runner

One of the most daunting tasks when you’re DIY-ing your wedding, in my opinion, is definitely the reception centerpieces. But if you start with a base that makes assembling foolproof, anyone can play florist for the day! There are tricks for vases (like taping the opening to create a grid or using floral foam), and for this fresh flower table runner, there is one unexpected supply that’ll make assembling a cinch. So grab your bridesmaids and test this tutorial out for your big day!
