Rebecca Minkoff’s Baby Shower

We were honored to get to style and decorate designer Rebecca Minkoff’s baby shower for her second little one on the way. Any great event starts with a great venue. And even though it’s a bit off the beaten track, Fitzarraldo in Brooklyn was rustic, chic perfection. After you’ve secured a date and venue, what’s next? Why, the invitations, of course! The great thing about planning an event for a designer is I could simply pull up her site and ended up finding inspiration in the ‘tortora’ color of this bag

Rebecca knew she was having a girl, but I didn’t think she was too girly so ended up selecting Penelope Poppy’s ‘Simply Baby‘ invitation.

There was a second “theme” to the shower besides the purple, vintage feel. ”I have a 2.5 year old son, Luca. One day I asked him what he wanted to name his baby sister and he said Gouda!” Minkoff shared. “I don’t know where he got it from but she’s been Gouda ever since.” A Gouda cheese tasting bar was also set up for guests.

I have to say, the flowers by Cristina Lozito really made the event. Each arrangement was unique and very organic. They were all so balanced, but not at all symmetrical.

Ara from Rock Paper Scissors Events was on the ground to help and she decorated the restaurant with lots of purple books, including included purple vintage and new children’s books, like Henry and the Purple CrayonPurple Toast, and the Big Purple Activity Book, as well as the whole party decor suite. She also mixed in lots and lots of lavender.

The shower was hosted by Zosia Mamet (below, from “Girls”)Kat Clements, Brie Katz, Sara Larsen, Tali Magal, Stephanie Minkoff and Jodi Ung.

One of my favorite other touches was using Lifefactory‘s purple bottles — they are glass and BPA free, but their plastic cover makes them droppable (can you tell I am a fan?!) And of course I loved how the purple circles referenced the invitation perfectly.
The guest book was a Minted art print Big Heart by Jorey Hurley custom matched to the purple water color in the invitation. Guest signed with a silver sharpie and we are hoping it’s a sentimental touch in Baby Gouda’s nursery.

Guests also had fun taking photos and instagramming from the Minted photobackdrop. You can’t go wrong with lots of boas, glasses and lips!

I can’t resist sharing this close up of Rebecca – she is even prettier (and nicer) than you could ever imagine in person.

Guests took home a goody bag filled with treats, my favorite of which was a Henri Bendel candle.

We made a gift tag that says ‘Light this candle and send a wish Becky’s way when she goes into labor.’

We’re looking forward to meeting Baby Gouda! Thank you for the honor Rebecca and team!
