At Minted, we believe that when giving gifts, what’s outside the box matters almost as much as what’s inside. So this year, after years of dreaming and plenty of requests from designers, we held our first-ever gift wrap challenge! In the Outside the Box Gift Wrap Challenge, we asked designers to create modern, unique, personalizable gift wrap designs that would make Minted customers’ gifts even more special this holiday season.
We received so many amazing submissions and are beyond thrilled to present our gift wrap collection. Among those winners, the designs below really shined in our Special Prize categories. Congratulations, winners!
Interests Award for the best gift wrap design that reflects a hobby or interest
“Night Skate” by Morgan Ramberg
We cannot get enough of Morgan’s abstracted ice skaters! The mixture of exaggerated curves and angular poses creates a very interesting, whimsical scene. This gift wrap would surely bring a smile to anybody’s face – perfect for holiday gifts!
Out of the Box Award for a holiday gift wrap design that incorporates personalization in a highly creative way
“We are Family” by Petra Kern
Petra surprised us with this truly creative design. What a brilliant way to tie together various different customizable elements, making one very personal design. We love that there is so much space to upload your own photos and to provide your own captions.
Clever Text Award for the holiday gift wrap design hat incorporates the most clever personalized text
“Awesome Gift” by GeekInk Design
Eric’s “Awesome Gift” is truly awesome. We love how clever and striking the personalization is on this design. His bright colors and carefree mix of type give any present tons of personality. Plus, who can resist the invitation to tear the gift wrap right off?!
Photogenic Award for the holiday gift wrap design that best incorporates a customer photo
“vintage post” by Frooted Design
Tanya’s “Vintage Post” has got to be one of the sweetest ways to show off your family photos. Those adorable mittens, bows, and snowflakes feel so traditionally cheerful. Her round photos fit seamlessly into the feel of the design, as does her stamped circular caption.
What’s in a Name Award for the design that best incorporates a customer’s name or initials
“Kitchen Tools” by Christine Loo
We immediately fell in love with Christine’s “Kitchen Tools” gift wrap. Her use of black and white adds to the hand-drawn, chalkboard quality of this design, almost suggesting a handwritten chalkboard menu. Her “from the kitchen of” script weaves so beautiful in between her pots and baked goods. What a sweet way to incorporate the baker (or chef’s) name!
Merry and Bright Award for the best design that uses non-traditional colors
“meringue” by chocomocacino
Gerrie manages to convey so much holiday cheer in this very non-traditional holiday design. Her classically festive holiday terms and icons create a distinctive holiday feel, while her use of pink and grey make the design seem so contemporary and fresh.
‘Tis the Season Award for the best Christmas gift wrap design
“Calligraphy Love” by Iwona K
We are in “calligraphy love” with Iwona’s design! Her hand-lettered holiday phrases and sweet illustrations are wonderfully cheerful. Not to mention her hand-drawn frames around each customer photo. Beautiful!
Gender Neutral Award for a design that men will love too
“Typography Cheer” by Jessie Steury
There’s nothing timid about “Typography Cheer”! Jessie’s design sends holiday greetings in a very bold way. Her black and white color palette, with interesting type and texture details, keeps things simple but festive. Sure to appeal to both men and women alike!
Kids Award for the best children’s gift wrap design
“Toys Under the Tree” by Bob Daly
We really can’t get enough of Bob’s iconic illustrations. His cheerful Santas and toys have a bit of a retro, yet timeless feel. He’s included all the quintessential Christmas favorites from toy trains to rocking horses. Any kid would love to give or receive with this gift wrap!
