This is the moment that we all look forward to every year. Today, as we reveal the top results of our 5th annual holiday card challenge, I can’t help but stop to think about just how talented and diverse our community is. I believe that the Minted community is the strongest community of designers and artists in the world. The 10 designs below have been curated as the best of over 2,600 designs by thousands of designers, customers, and fans from around the world.
These designs are the work of a range of Minties, from some who participated in their very first holiday challenge to seasoned designers. Their designs are not only beautiful, but also very different from each other—it’s a testament to the range of talents and tastes that makes our community the very best. With that, I give you the top 1-10 ranked designs. Congratulations, designers!
1st Place Winner: “Be Merry Berries” by Angela Marzuki
We could not have been more thrilled to see that “Be Merry Berries” was voted as the first place holiday card design. Angela takes the cake with our grand prize of $7,000, the largest we’ve ever awarded. This design is a true work of art. From her mod berries to her subtle shadows and textures, Angela’s design is absolutely beautiful. We shared the news with Angela this morning. See her reaction here:
2nd Place: “White Christmas” by cadence paige design
It’s no surprise that “White Christmas” wins our 2nd place prize of $4,000. Paige always seems to be so in tune with what appeals to both customers and designers. Her ornamental text and artwork is lovely and festive, but its simplicity also allows a photo to take center stage.
3rd Place: “Tis the Season” by Jennifer Wick
Jen’s designs always make us smile. In “Tis the Season,” she has beautifully combined lettering and type with her striking signature florals. We also love her nod to the classic holiday song – anyone receiving this card will surely start humming the tune. Jen is the winner of our 3rd place prize of $2,000.
4th Place: “Merry and Bright Sparkles” by Alethea and Ruth
Rachel has done it again! “Merry and Bright Sparkles” exudes holiday cheer. Her cheerful text and starbursts impart a warm holiday feeling without using traditional holiday colors or motifs. It makes for one very fresh design.
5th Place: “Whimsy Wishes” by CRAFTEdesign
We can’t get over Kelly’s lettering. The whimsical loops and lines of her letters are so distinct and unusual. We love how each and every descender has its own very big personality. This design perfectly and cheerfully embellishes a full-bleed photo.
6th Place: “Year in a Nutshell” by Spotted Whale Design
Bold, graphic and just flat-out hip, Elliot expertly blends an unexpected color palette and flawless typography in this clever infographic design. The clean division of space and mix of icons is a modern way to share highlights from your year.
7th Place: “Dazzling” by Inkwell Design Studio
A sparkling mix of snowfall and a bokeh-inspired blur, the name of Jessica’s design says it all, this design is truly dazzling. The slightly transparent circles gracefully frame the photo, while the arced type delicately echoes their shape, creating a holiday card that strikes a balance between elegant and festive.
8th Place: “Christmas Dingbats” by Cheer Up Cherup
“Christmas Dingbats” puts a very modern twist on traditional holiday motifs. All your holiday favorites are there from happy gingerbread-folk to snowflakes, stockings, and warm woolen mittens. Alaina’s decidedly modern style, clean layout, and unusual textures make this a holiday card with a contemporary feel.
9th Place: “Holiday Bliss” by chica design
Angela always does a lovely job making “simple” stand out. This design proved especially popular with consumers, who love unique ways to incorporate their full-bleed photos. Her mixed type and opaque elements give a warm personality to any customer photo.
10th Place: “Ombre” by Palm Papers
Lauren picked up on one of the biggest trends of the year with her subtle ombre, and did so in her own distinct way. We love how she set her type to form a little Christmas tree. The words all seem to fit together perfectly and effortlessly.
Again, congratulations to all the winners of our Joy to the World Holiday Challenge!
