I'm an art director specializing in print advertising and for me the concept is always king. I like edgy designs that push limits, bright colors, and speak-to-me typography. I'm flattered when clients ask me to create a one-of-a-kind invitation for their special event and I strive to create something that's simple, but beautiful and colorful, and always tells their special story. When I hear someone say they've kept the piece as a memento, then I know I've done my job well.

Hi Carol, No problem. I'm glad you were honest and let me know you didn't like the greys I had chosen. I think it's better horizontal and I chose some brighter colors for the kayaks so your suggestions helped! :)

Hi Carol, I just now saw your comment on my profile page (sorry for the 2 day delay!) What I had meant was that I really love the off-kilter look, but the way the original items were stacked made it seem like everything should have already fallen to the right. But I just saw that you've changed it and the current version is just great - off-kilter AND balanced. Love it!

Ohh I know what you mean about the screen preview. Such a challenge; sometimes I feel I have to change things a bit more than I'm intending to just so they show up right on screen. I love your designs - keep 'em coming! :) And I greatly appreciate your comments.

Thanks for your comments on "And" Carol! I did not know that about "state" fonts...can I still use it for the ampersand (non-editable text) if I convert it to outline? It's on the Minted font list...

Hi Carol, Here's what I just wrote to Sarah: "I absolutely don't feel that you should remove your design on my account. This kind of thing is bound to happen when there are so many designs submitted. In fact, I just noticed another design has been uploaded with the same text. Perhaps this type of thing is just part of being a designer in a competition and it's best to have those voting decide. I believe that Carol's was the first up, and I also think it's probably difficult for someone to ask that a later design be removed because you don't want to be perceived a certain way. So, if you feel your design should be removed, then perhaps, mine should, too." What are your thoughts on this? Thanks! Laura

Hi Carol, Oops, I posted this on my page but was meant for you.... Thanks for the compliment on my design. Fallow doe/deer have spots as adults as well as fawns, however, I kind of wish I had left the spots off to differentiate since most adult species do not have spots. Oh well, next time I will do more research. See photo on my page :).

I think so because it's initials. Maybe try it without the blue dot all together and just float the name in the white space under the C???

Oh and about the color - I tend to like very strong pops of color, but can't tell if I am slowly designing for what I think Minted likes or doing what I would buy. Hmmmm.

Sometimes ya feel like a nut, sometimes ya don't. Comments always welcome and you are not a nut. I swear I start out with hand written elements, grunge / vintage textures and bit by bit, I toss it all and get to the core. I like minimal so I design for what I would want in my house, but it's not for everyone. Trying to balance it all w.i the font guidelines, time and skill-set. The font used is not working for me and need to spend some time w the font list. Thought about Making the "O" in Once as well as the other things on your hit list a bit more special. Something I struggle with making something over-worked, but then ends up too simple. Sometimes I toss things up there never knowing if I will get a spare moment to fully finish. Your push always gives me the need kick. Your comments are always spot on Carol.

Carol - you are so funny! :) I changed it because some time after I submitted that design the first time, another designer submitted one with similar elements that blew mine out of the water (they didn't copy, they just used those dotted lines way better than I did). I planned to delete that entry because I didn't feel it was worth keeping in, but at the last minute decided to upload a different design under that name...I like the name "Smart." Anyway - thank you so much for your sweet comment! :)

Carol, Thanks so much for your input on the rainboots. I drew the boots and knew I wanted to use them some way but have been so stumped on the best way to incorporate with the name. I'm going to play some more with your suggestions :) Ps- Im still not sure the best place to post responses, so I hope you get my thank- you!

I just looked clarendon up, wow I like it a lot actually (esp. the numbers)! I don't have it on my computer, but i think it will have to be one of the next fonts I buy now.
